Shop ’til you drop @ Food Lover’s Market
For our ILT, we visited Food Lover’s Market on Sandown Road. Each group had a budget of R100 and it was very interesting observing their negotiation skills and making decisions. They had to choose two fruit from 3 categories (deciduous, citrus and sub-tropical) and pay for their goods at the cashier. If they had money left, they may choose more fruit from the list. One group had only 10c left after their shopping experience.
Partridges having fun with their iPads
The Partridges brought their iPads to school for the first time and
had an extremely exciting day from scavenger hunts to using QR codes. We are very privileged at Elkanah House to have every child having their own iPad for educational purposes. Thank you to the parents for allowing us to extend our education in creative, effective ways!
QR Codes in the QUAIL CLASS
The 18th of February was a very important day on our calendar. Our Grade 4s brought their iPads to school for the first time this year.
We are currently doing addition and subtraction in Maths. During our Maths period, the students solved the problems on a recording sheet and then checked their answers by scanning the QR code.
It was wonderful to be part of the excitement and enthusiasm for Maths.
Quails @ the AACL
The Quails had an awesome time playing with the rescued animals. These dogs and kittens are rehabilitated for adoption. We also wrote thank you letters to Mpho who works at the Epping Branch. Each child experienced “Living and Loving beyond Self”.
Enjoy reading the authentic letters our children wrote to Mpho. Many hearts were touched! Learning beyond the classroom in full swing!

Fantastic Pheasants at the Beach
On Thursday the 28th of January the Grade 4 Pheasants joined the rest of the Grade 4s for a wonderful morning of bonding and frivolity at Small Bay beach. The weather was perfect, with lovely warm water and pleasant temperatures. A gentle mist hung around for a while keeping the bathers cool while they enjoyed the waves under the watchful eyes of the teachers and lifeguards. Other members of our class preferred to clamber on the jungle gym or spend some quality time with mom or dad. The ice-cream man made his appearance mid morning, much to the pleasure of the pupils who quickly depleted his stock. All in it was a wonderful morning enjoyed by all.

Reflecting on Grade 4 so far.
We have been back at school for almost a month now and our Grade 4s are enjoying the new routines, opportunities and challenges of the Senior Primary
Here are some snippets from pieces they wrote at the beginning of the year about their first impressions of Grade 4:
“As I walked through the door, I was very overwhelmed. I looked around and I was so confused, I really didn’t know where to go. My new campus is awesome but very different. The most exciting thing is that it is going to be a whole new experience for me!”
“I am proud to be in Grade 4. The most exciting things are the tuckshop, the iPads and an awesome classroom. I know I am going to have lots of excitement in Grade 4. I can’t wait!”
“I walked into our beautiful new school and was surprised at what I found. I met many new friends and that was extremely exciting. Our new campus is so large. My teacher has a good sense of humour and tells funny stories. Grade 4 is going to be challenging but I am going to love it!”
“When I walked through the door I could not believe how fast I had got there! I can still remember the day I started school. I had big butterflies in my stomach but at the same time I was feeling excited. By the time I got into class, I was feeling confident.”
“While I was waiting for my friends to arrive, my emotions were all rumbling around my head but I knew deep down that I was very excited. I think the new children are very kind and that I will make great new friends.”
